Bora shares design vision at construction kickoff for new Portland Faubion School

by Stephen Endy

Construction of the new Pre-K-8 Faubion School for Portland Public Schools (PPS) is now underway! And the demolition of three existing buildings has begun. The focus of an innovative partnership between PPS and neighboring Concordia University, Faubion will collocate Concordia’s College of Education within its walls.

Concordia students have a strong history of supporting the Faubion community, and this building embraces that collaborative spirit of engagement.  College faculty offices, university classrooms and administrative offices will be embedded throughout.  In addition to the COE, Concordia is providing funding for a number of community, student and family support services within the building.  With these added wrap-around services, Concordia is living out its mission, “3 to PhD”, by supporting family and student needs from the beginning of life.  Faubion students will be best prepared to arrive at school ready to learn, so they can “Pursue their Highest Dreams.”

Bora shared this inspiring vision at a recent Pre-Construction conference with TODD Construction and subcontractors, the extended PPS and CU owner team, and Bora’s sub-consultants.  It served as a wonderful opportunity to kick-off the construction phase by sharing the broader goals of the project with all involved.

The ground breaking ceremony is scheduled for April 7, 2016.
