University of Wisconsin-Madison Humanities Building Breaks Ground

by Bora Architecture & Interiors

On May 2, 2024, we celebrated the groundbreaking ceremony for the University of Wisconsin-Madison College of Letters & Science’s new Irving & Dorothy Levy Hall. The inclusive, 136,000sf gateway building, designed in collaboration with RAMLOW/STEIN Architecture + Interiors, will bring together eight diverse academic departments and will be the first new humanities building on campus in 50 years.

The groundbreaking was attended by faculty, staff, facilities, and the project team–as well as the project’s major donors, Marvin and Jeff Levy, whose philanthropy made the project possible.

“It is likely that nearly every incoming undergraduate student will take a class at Levy Hall during the course of their college education,” noted Eric Wilcots, Dean of the College of Letters & Science. “We imagined the design of this space with that in mind, bringing in students who could contribute to this vision. We want this space to welcome and to embrace our students and to foster community across the departments.”

Levy Hall is anticipated to open in 2026.
