Stanford University Knight Management Center

I have worked with many firms in my career, but Bora is unrivaled in performance on all fronts: design, sustainability, delivery, and personality. Stanford is a complicated client to say the least. But you gracefully navigated the many voices and inputs we threw at you. I can assure you that each one of those individuals is as thrilled as I am with the results. Bora truly made our dreams real.

Kathleen Kavanaugh, Program Director, Graduate School of Business

Bora designed Stanford’s Graduate School of Business (GSB) to support a new highly collaborative and project-based curriculum. The 450,000 sf, 11-building Knight Management Center is a campus within the University’s core campus. We were challenged to create a vital place that would reinforce Stanford’s rich fabric while establishing a clear identity for this world-class business school.

Our design team worked closely with the GSB community, the University administration and its Board of Trustees to create a plan and an architecture that would meet everyone’s aspirations. We leveraged the region’s near-perfect climate and Stanford’s desire to showcase pedagogy, crafting a complex that turns business education inside out. Permeability invites the surrounding campus to engage, while internal spaces and amenities enable the cross-departmental collaboration that constantly evolving curriculum requires.

Classrooms, lecture halls, student team spaces, project and collaboration labs, and faculty and staff offices are woven together by a rich mosaic of both interior and exterior networking spaces. These not only captivate the business school community, but lure others from the broader campus to come and share their intellectual energy. The project is serving its purpose and more. As one of the most obvious “places to be” on the Stanford campus, it has bolstered recruitment of the highest-caliber faculty and students. The first business school to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the Knight Management Center is living out its mission to “Change Lives, Change Organizations, Change the World.”
