The integrated arts complex is a vital node in the fine arts precinct on the Virginia Tech campus. It’s located along a busy boundary between the campus and neighborhood making it a crucial space.  Now, the renovated and expanded home for music, art and drama advances the precinct’s identity within the campus and the larger community.

The renovation of a former administrative building, Henderson Hall, consolidates several previously scattered departments. These include theater, music, graphic design and art history. The 36,000-square-foot facility has faculty and graduate student offices, graphic design studios, computer labs, a lighting design studio, a scenic design studio, a lecture hall, a slide library, and multimedia presentation rooms. Acoustically isolated music faculty studios and music practice rooms fill the remainder of the renovated space.

Theatre 101, a new 8,000-square-foot black box theater, replaces an existing parking lot to the southeast of Henderson Hall. It also includes a rehearsal room, dressing rooms and support spaces. Theatre 101’s steps and lobby entrance engage the street living as a venue for exhibits and impromptu performances.

Combined, the Henderson Hall and Theater 101 Buildings are the first LEED certified projects on the Virginia Tech campus. The campus buildings received LEED Gold certification in 2010 with help from Bora.
