Principal Michael Tingley Elevated to the College of Fellows

by CJ Chang

We are excited to announce that Principal Michael Tingley will be inducted as a Fellow at the AIA National Conference this May. The College of Fellows is the highest honor in the Institute’s membership and is awarded to those who have demonstrated a “standard of excellence” and made significant contributions to the profession of architecture and society.

Throughout his 40-year career, Michael’s focus on experiential placemaking has resulted in a nationally recognized body of work for performing arts and education. From performance exhibition spaces for the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art’s TBA Festival to the iconic Mesa Arts Center in Arizona, Michael’s design leadership has amplified the impact of arts organizations, established innovative learning environments, transformed communities, and fostered deeper engagement in civic and academic environments nationwide.

Michael’s approach is defined by its catalyzing effect on community identity, fostering shared experiences that unite people, encourage discourse, and celebrate cultural diversity and intellectual life. As the President of Bora Architects, he has expanded the firm’s reach beyond its local boundaries, building a national practice whose commitment to design excellence has garnered accolades including numerous AIA awards and the AIA Northwest and Pacific Region Firm of the Year Award.
