Several Bora team members recently took part in the National Organization of Minority Architects (NOMA) annual conference in Kansas City. NOMA exists to not only minimize the effects of racism in the profession, but also to celebrate the excellence and creativity that stems from more diverse representation in architecture. Here are a few thoughts from the Bora team members who attended:
“The NOMA Conference was a great opportunity to connect with architects and adjacent professionals from across the nation who look like me…As a first-time attendee, I left with a new vision and perspective on design, a strong motivation to engage more deeply with communities, and professional connections I can continue to grow throughout my career.”
— Naaman Yarbrough, Bora’s Self Enhancement Inc. intern
“Being among hundreds of minority architects, designers, and AEC professionals from across the U.S. was deeply energizing. The seminars, presentations, and events focused on justice, equity, inclusion, and diversity were equal parts uplifting, thought-provoking, and transformative. Learning about collaborative, community-centered work happening across cities, neighborhoods, and communities across the U.S. made it clear that what we imagine, design, and build carries real impact and meaning.”
— Diego Zubizarreta Otero, Architect
We’re big fans of the work NOMA is doing for our industry, both at the local and national levels, as they shape the future of design. Learn more at noma.net.
