Bora selected to design African American Museum in Florida

by Bora Architects

Distinguished among an initial national pool of forty candidates and awarded after a competitive design process among five finalists, Bora has been awarded the design of the new African American Museum & Research Library in West Palm Beach, Florida.

This transformative facility will be constructed on the historic site of Roosevelt High School, serving as a cultural anchor in the Coleman Park neighborhood to restore what was once a vibrant center of Black life. The new, two-story, 37,000sf project will be a beacon of cultural pride, economic opportunity, and educational empowerment, celebrating the many contributions of African Americans to the region. It will include museum-quality exhibit space, engaging educational resources, a research library, and community-focused areas for lectures, programs and events.

For this project Bora assembled a “Design Collective” bringing together expertise in architecture, landscape architecture, community engagement, and storytelling. Our team, led by Amy Donohue as Principal in Charge and Jeanie Lai as Design Principal, is thrilled to collaborate on design with STORYN Studio for Architecture, led by Founder and Principal Everald Colas. Together we will work closely with landscape architect Hood Design Studio, exhibit designer Local Projects, and Dr. Nashid S. Madyun for oral storytelling.
