Volta Studio Wayfinding

Portland, OR

After more than 30 years in its former downtown office, Bora relocated to Portland’s central eastside, renovating a former electrical warehouse into an award-winning studio. In our reimagined studio space, we developed the conference room naming and design as a tribute to our new neighborhood and the building’s industrial warehouse character

To encourage employees to explore this region of the city together, we held a firmwide scavenger hunt with the goal of finding a variety of inspiring and unexpected typography. From this activity a series of diverse type styles were selected and hand-painted at the entry to each of our new conference rooms, giving each gathering space a unique identity rooted to its local context.

Considering and elevating creativity at all scales enables small design moves to create big impact. Using this simple numbering system for conference rooms enhances ease in wayfinding, while the eclectic type styles reflect our firm’s exploratory culture.
