JOHN W. (JACK) BROOME, FAIA
1922-2020
With heavy hearts we announce the recent passing of the “B” of Bora, John W. (Jack) Broome, one of our firm’s original founders in 1958. A WWII veteran and UO architecture alum, Jack was a magnanimous personality, a smart and thoughtful leader, and a distinguished Architect who spent 30 years building Bora’s early portfolio of work in apartments, churches, medical facilities, community centers, and K12 planning.
Jack was also a dedicated citizen and generous philanthropist. Upon his retirement in the mid-1980s, he spent the rest of his life contributing to Tualatin and environmental causes, serving as President of the Tualatin Historical Society and most significantly founding the Wetlands Conservancy with his wife Althea. Together they lived in and restored one of Oregon’s oldest residences – the John Sweek House – where Althea also founded the Willowbrook Arts Camp, which continues today.
We are forever grateful for the legacy Jack leaves our firm and our community.
