UC Berkeley Zellerbach Hall Master Plan

Berkeley, CA

An iconic cultural destination built in 1968, Zellerbach Hall is a multi-use performing arts center. Its shared by Cal Performances, a world-renowned arts presenter on the Berkeley campus, and the Department of Theater, Dance and Performance Studies.

Bora’s master plan developed a vision for the renovation and expansion of Zellerbach Hall that would transform it into an iconic cultural center for the 21st Century. The plan outlined all this within a ten-year horizon.

The full scope of Bora’s multidisciplinary team included a detailed facility assessment, space utilization analysis, and programming. It also outlined feasibility studies, conceptual design, and a phasing plan for how UC Berkeley Zellerbach Hall could be renovated and expanded to meet the programmatic space needs over time.

Today, the 2,100-seat auditorium has housed performances by many of the world’s most acclaimed orchestras, vocalists, dance companies, and speakers. It’s become a welcomed gathering place for campus arts. This great Bora project breathes life into the continued learning experience of UC Berkley students.
