Like many corporate campus buildings today, this tech office space was in dire need of an overall upgrade and remodel. Bora brought in fresh thinking to create a distinct, functional open work environment for the new tenants. While the existing building we inherited was generic and underwhelming, the surrounding landscape was mature and beautiful, providing a great amenity. Our design focused on physically and conceptually connecting to this outdoor treasure, maximizing access to natural light, and supporting workstyles ranging from formal to informal.
The central defining element of our design, clad in tactile wall panels, is known as the Hedge. This design move is a linear bank of collaborative spaces and amenities that help subdivide the office into manageable neighborhoods. Passageways connect workspaces on the north and south, with access to internal nooks, writeable surfaces, and small collaboration spaces that foster intra-team interaction.
Our design also focused on using enticingly textured materials and patterns, appealing to the senses and creating visual interest. This materiality is especially strong in special features like the “Nest” and “Honeycomb” huddle spaces, an outdoor entry garden and fire pit, and a media room evoking the feeling of a shaded pergola.
In crafting this office environment, Bora worked diligently to only use materials from a narrow list of approved products free from harmful chemicals. Our efforts led to the first LEED Platinum building on this tech company’s campus, as well as the first in the city of Mountain View.
