Old Dominion University Goode Theater

Norfolk, VA

Originally conceived as a single addition to the Diehn Fine and Performing Arts building, this project evolved into something more. Good Theater became the new free-standing building that was exactly what Olde Dominion University needed. It needed to house a flexible studio theater, sound stage for student television productions, and scene shop. All of this elevating the education experience for students.

The transparent façade gives passersby a sense of the vitality and creativity happening within. Color-changing LED lighting and images projected over the main entry doors animate the building by night. This design is unique and also inviting to the students and community that use it. In final completion, the Goode Theatre features a 185-seat flexible stage facility with a fully equipped film soundstage.

Bora also renovated the adjacent historic Stables Theater to better accommodate theater classrooms and a large costume shop. The expansive space offers great updated lighting too. These needed renovations help expand the University’s program into the future.
