The Vista Pearl looks over Fields Park towards the Willamette River, offering uninterrupted views of the city and Cascade Mountains beyond. Expansive decks stretch the entire length of the East and West facades, connecting residents to the area’s natural beauty in a way that is unparalleled in residential buildings in Portland. As part of the North Pearl District master plan we created with Hoyt, the five-story podium base speaks to the pervasive low rise industrial fabric of Pearl District buildings, while the 21-story tower rises to meet city planning goals for taller, thinner, higher density residences in this neighborhood. The landscaped podium roof terrace gives residents a place to gather and further connects the building to Fields Park below.
Our goal for this project was to emphasize and further establish the character of the North Pearl as a gateway to the city, with a distinctly contemporary aesthetic. Housing a total of 149 units, the building will bring a fresh material palette to the neighborhood with dark gray textured cement panels on the north and south facades contrasted to lighter toned cement plaster at the east and west facades. Retail spaces wrap the majority of the building’s base and connect to pedestrians with floor to ceiling glass.
Occupying the last building site on Fields Park, the Vista is set to be completed in Fall 2018.
