Bora Begins Work on the Building for Environment & Society at the University of Oregon

by Ashley Cartmel

The University of Oregon has selected Bora to design a new 60,000 sf interdisciplinary facility that builds upon UO’s long-standing expertise in sustainability and sustainable solutions.  The new building will provide over 700 new seats in a series of large, innovative classrooms, and will house faculty and students from the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Design, including the Environmental Studies program, the Department of Geography, and the School of Planning, Public Policy, and Management.

The Design Team is currently working with University representatives to develop a building program and select the appropriate site on the campus. In conjunction with PLACE Landscape Architects, Bora has assessed several potential sites for the building, narrowing the options from five to three preferred locations over the course of the summer.  Final site selection is slated for October, with Conceptual Design to be completed later this year.  The new building is scheduled to open in the summer of 2021.
