This year on Martin Luther King Day, we closed the office and dedicated our time to two local community programs working to saving lives and protect the environment. Some 45 Boraites joined Red Cross employees as part of the Home Fire Campaign, which seeks to educate households about fire safety and offers installation of smoke alarms at no cost. Our team was able to reach over 200 residents visiting households in three different communities in greater Portland.
Meanwhile, other Boraites travelled just across the river to Clark County Washington to help the Clark Public Utilities Stream Team, an organization that protects and restores the Salmon Creek watershed. We joined a large group of volunteers at the native plant nursery to pot nearly 4,600 willow and dogwood cuttings, which will be planted in multiple restoration locations regionally.
Re-united at Ecliptic Brewing’s Happy Hour at days end, we shared our stories and experiences, enjoyed a beer or three, and brainstormed future possibilities for volunteering in our community.
