Emma Abramowitz Inaugurated as IIDA Oregon Chapter President

by Emma Abramowitz

On July 13, The IIDA Oregon Chapter held its Annual Celebration and Fundraiser, the Picnic Classic. This event doubles as our Annual Meeting and is also our largest fundraiser for the year. We had a great turnout and thanks to ticket purchases, our sponsors and raffle donations, raised funds to continue implementation of the engaging programming that the IIDA Oregon Chapter offers the design community.

I’ve been involved with the IIDA Oregon Chapter Board of Directors since 2012, as part of the Student Affairs team and as the VP of Membership. The role as President is a three year term, including my service on the board as President Elect from 2016-2017, and as Past President in 2018-2019. This is an exciting new role, and I’m looking forward to serving our design community at a higher capacity!

This blog post outlines some of the goals we shared at the Annual Meeting, but here’s a quick summary:

  • Increase engagement with senior designers and affiliated professionals.
  • Broaden our reach beyond the Portland Metro area.
  • Continue to host CEU accredited Forums on a breadth of topics.
  • Locally host the IIDA Western Region Student Design Charrette.
  • Invite IIDA CEO Cheryl Durst to our Design Excellence Awards as moderator.
  • Continue to advocate for Interior Design legislation for commercial interior designers in The State of Oregon.

There’s much more to come, and I’ll be sharing updates following our Board retreat in August. Thank you to Bora and to my colleagues for the tremendous support I’ve receive so far in my new role with the IIDA Oregon Chapter. To stay current on the latest Chapter news, keep an eye on our website. In the meantime, here’s to continuing our great work together. Enjoy the photos!
