Bora Hosts Sneak Peak of Airbnb’s Expanded Portland Office

by Ashley Cartmel

Bora recently teamed up with Airbnb to offer a behind-the-scenes tour of the company’s newly expanded Portland office as part of the Architecture Foundation of Oregon’s 2017 “Dine & Design” event series, an annual fundraiser for this non-profit organization.  Design Team members Michael Tingley (Principal), Sarah Weber (Interior Designer) and Heather McGinn (Designer) gave a brief overview of the key design concepts and challenges to 30 ticketholders who sampled Oregon wines and enjoyed food from Pacific Pie Company in the office’s “All Hands” gathering space.

The group then toured all four floors of the Airbnb “CX (Customer Experience) Hub”, which includes a wide variety of workspace environments, full kitchen, small library, hidden “pub”, Timbers-themed tea point, and multiple 3-dimensional recreations of actual Airbnb “listings” that serve as meeting rooms.  Also on show were the many furnishings the give the space is residential aesthetic – more than 70% of which were custom fabricated or locally sourced using the talents of Portland shops including The Good Mod and SuperFab.  Bora has designed both phases of Airbnb’s Portland Office – Phase One (floors 2 & 3) was completed in 2014 and Phase Two (floors 1 & 4) just last month.
