Dartmouth College Hopkins Center for the Arts

Hanover, NH

A groundbreaking structure, the Hopkins Center for the Arts is a dynamic social and cultural destination on the Dartmouth College campus. Originally designed by Wallace Harrison in 1962, Bora had the pleasure of transforming this unique build.

Our master plan outlined a series of phased improvements. These improvements provided a much-needed space for performance, rehearsal, event support, and creative research too. Bora’s renovation transformed the library into a collaborative and social center while also strengthening ties to the surrounding arts district.

In physical form the design reflects Dartmouth’s culture of interdisciplinary collaboration. The build employs a series of transparent boxes that penetrate the opaque modern exterior at each entry point. Then also allowing the creativity within students and faculty to engage the surrounding campus.
