Michigan State University – Cook Recital Hall Renovation

Bora has been working with the College of Music at Michigan State University since 2001 to program, master plan, design and implement the transformation of their teaching and performance facilities. The 180-seat Cook Recital Hall in the Music Building is one of two performance venues completed as phases of the updated plan.

We transformed this space to create a first-rate recital venue for small ensemble performances. The music faculty challenged us to provide A+ acoustics despite the limitations of the 1939 building. The Bora-led team surprised them by not only proposing to remove the proscenium but also to demolish the balcony, completely transforming the identity and acoustical quality of the room.
