Construction Begins on Global Innovation Exchange

by Emily Russell

Today, we attended the groundbreaking ceremony for the Global Innovation Exchange (GIX) up in Bellevue, WA. This partnership between the University of Washington and Tsinghua University, with support from Microsoft, is generating a lot of excitement in the region – and for good reason!

Integrating incubator, studio, makerspace, wet lab, office, presentation space, and informal study areas into a unique learning landscape, GIX is located in the heart of the Puget Sound “innovation ecosystem”. This partnership between academia and industry will help develop the technological, entrepreneurial and design abilities of graduate level students through a team-based, maker-centered curriculum.

The new joint degree program, a Master of Science in Technology Innovation (MSTI), is anticipated to include additional academic institutions and corporate entities soon after the program is launched in Fall, 2017.
